As apart of our holiday we decided on a little venture outside of Helsinki to the lovely old town of Porvoo. A quick bus ride (again with free Wifi  =] ) – of about an hour – brings us to this peaceful little medieval town which is about 50kms east of Helsinki. The bus brings us into the market square, where we stocked up on berries to take on the old part of town.

Porvoo was very walkable, and we zigzagged through the densely packed streets of the old town and ended up spending a bit of time taking in the wooden houses and the specifically the red warehouses along the riverbank.

The town was a hub for tourists and while on our self-walking tour bumped into some Jehovahs witnesses from the USA (to be fair that was the last ting I would have expected in a small town in Finland).

The old town was quite stunning and the huge cathedral in the centre was a hive of activity and again another stop for more photos. We made our way through to the residential houses, full of colours and lush greenery. The camera’s were snapping through every turn.

DSCF1159When we returned to market square, we took a pit stop for some coffee and sat with the locals out front of the coffee food truck.

The old town was the highlight as the “newer” parts lacked a bit of the old school charm, but that’s due to those wooden houses making such an imprint.
